I Guess We've Decided

To stick with the A Beka curriculum.

It just seems like the best choice for us right now.
It's easy and organized... something I need.

I like the subjects with chapters and quizzes and tests.
That is how I grew up doing it in school.

So, I guess I'm "old school" like that.
I like Spelling tests every Friday. lol

Anyway, off to watch the game!! ~Go Colts!!!~

Long Time, No Post

Well, our co-op is over for this semester. We don't go back until February. I will be teaching World Geography to the 4th graders next semester. I'm looking forward to it. Another mom shared a great book for me to use, it's called "Pineapples, Penguins, and Pagodas: Traveling Around The World Through Literature, Research, and Thinking Skills" by Barbara Jinkins. Has anyone used this? If so, I'd love to hear what you think about it. It looks like it will be a great way to teach Geography.

We are really slacking at this point... it's too hard to get anything done right now and since I will be taking a week off work between Christmas and New Years, we'll get more schooling in during that week that we've been able to in the last couple. There's just too much going on right now. During my time off work, we have some fun things planned... a trip to Michigan to visit friends and family, a visit to the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art here in Indy, and hopefully we'll get to go sleding at some point. We'll start our curriculum again in January.

I probably won't be posting much else until the New Year, so until then, I wish you all Very Merry Christmas!!

Back to Square One

Well, I guess they didn't air the homeschooling show on Dr. Phil. I hope they do someday, but I'll probably miss it. I never watch tv during the day. Who has time?

So is it just us, or is it really hard to get back on track once you've had an illness go through the family? We missed a whole week due to colds, bronchitis, etc. and we're having a hard time getting back into the swing of things. We were doing so good too! I know we won't do good during the holidays, we're just too busy and the kids are too excited.

I am really enjoying my co-op class that I'm teaching. I have a really nice helper and the kids have been so great the last couple weeks. I think I may just have to volunteer to teach the 4th graders again next semester. They're all such great kids. I love to watch them learn! They all have their own ideas and personalities and it's just been a joy to teach them. I'm glad I took the challenge.

Dr. Phil - This Friday

Dr. Phil is going to have a show on homeschooling this Friday. But before you watch it, prepare yourselves. And read this , so you'll understand that if he doesn't show homeschoolers in the best light, you won't be surprised.

We Did It!

We got up, got ready, got breakfast and started on school first thing this morning.
Yay us!

And we got all our work done. Double Yay for us!

I think we're going to stick with A Bekka for now.
